BINTI: From Language Barrier to Bridge Builder
I came to the U.S. with a dream but I didn’t speak English. I struggled with the language and had a hard time understanding a new system. At times, I felt alone.
International House in Charlotte supported me during that journey. With their help, I learned English, earned my degree in Early Childhood Education, and built a career in public schools.
My own experience inspired me to create Amani Kids so that no African family has to feel alone. We help connect families with resources in their own languages, just as someone once did for me.
International House changed my life. Today, through Amani Kids, I have the opportunity to help other families.
2. JUDITH: They Saw Me When I Couldn't Walk
Judith arrived in Charlotte as a refugee without speaking English. After a serious car accident left her unable to walk, she felt hopeless and unsure of what to do next.
Through Amani Kids, we connected her with resources in her own language that helped her navigate those challenges.
Today, Judith is walking again. She earned her high school diploma, is married, has a beautiful daughter, and is now a thriving content creator.

3. ANONYMOUS FAMILY: Every Child Deserves School
A parent was referred to Amani Kids for support. He had a school-age son with special needs who was not attending school. The parents did not know that a nonverbal child could still attend school and receive the support he needed.
Amani Kids met with the parents in their own language and explained the options available to them.
Today, their son is enrolled in school.

4. SALAMA: She Didn't Give Up, She Graduated
Salama struggled in high school because of language barriers and an unfamiliar school environment. She missed her graduation and felt like giving up.
Through Amani Kids mentorship, we encouraged her not to give up and supported her along the way.
Salama graduated, and today she is enrolled in college.
